RUSSIA CONSISTENTLY SUPPORTS THE GROWING INFLUENCE OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.
Dear friends, On behalf of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and in my own capacity, I warmly welcome all members of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia — Islamic World” and congratulate you on the 20th anniversary!
The Russian Senators commend your contribution to strengthening friendship and expanding cooperation between Russia and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Under the leadership of Rustam Minnikhanov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan and Chair of the Group of Strategic Vision, the Group is undertaking major steps to foster contacts between civil society, academia, and the business community across Russia and Muslim states.
Russia and the Islamic world stand united in their rejection of the West’s reckless attempts to impose a neocolonial world order—one built on selfish ambitions to prop themselves up through dominating sovereign states. Together, we advocate for a fair multipolar world order, firmly grounded in the uncompromising respect of universally recognised principles and norms of international law, anchored in the UN Charter.
Russia consistently supports the growing influence of the Islamic world in international affairs. Thus, the discussion of a development strategy for the Greater Eurasian Partnership—a concept initiated by the Group during the International Economic Forum “Russia — Islamic World”—is of particular importance. At the initiative of President Putin, the GEP, shaped as an “integration of integrations,” is aimed to foster cooperation between the EAEU, SCO, ASEAN, and other Eurasian groups, while aligning the EAEU’s development plans with other integration projects.
Representing Russia’s regions, the Federation Council highly values the ongoing development of trade, economic, scientific, and cultural ties between regions of the OIC member states and the Russian federal subjects—particularly those with Muslim majority.
