ENGAGEMENT WITH THE ISLAMIC WORLD IS A KEY PRIORITY FOR EAEU’S INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION.
On behalf of the Eurasian Economic Commission, I warmly welcome participants of the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum”!
Over the years, the Forum has established itself as a respected platform for open dialogue and practical decision-making. I would like to congratulate the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia — Islamic World” on its 20th anniversary and commend its significant contribution to fostering dialogue and cooperation.
Engagement with the Islamic world is a key priority for the EAEU’s international cooperation. This partnership is steadily expanding, both bilaterally and through international organisations, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. We expect a practical collaboration with interested partners on a wide range of economic issues.
The Eurasian Economic Union is systematically expanding partnerships with a number of states. Iran holds observer status with the EAEU and is party to a free trade agreement. Deals have been struck with the UAE and Indonesia, talks are underway with Tunisia, and formal dialogue has been established with Jordan. These arrangements scale up trade, attract investment, and deepen economic engagement.
A key focus of cooperation is the development of the Halal sector. Given the extensive geography of EAEU’s cooperation with the Islamic world, there is clear potential for joint efforts with partners to enhance Halal certification systems. This will bolster trade volumes between the Union and Muslim states by increasing consumer trust and reducing market access barriers.
This year, the EAEU is placing particular stress on the digital transformation in economy and the integration of AI technologies. We view these areas as a basis for exchanging experience and practical engagement with partners, including in developing digital solutions for trade, logistics, and industry.
I am confident that the Forum and the meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia — Islamic World” will serve as a platform for forging new partnerships, shaping practical solutions, and launching joint initiatives capable of injecting fresh momentum into mutually beneficial cooperation.
